Lightning Clone SQUEEEEALING!
I have just powered up my Lightning clone for the first time and I have a major squeal. All of the controls work as they shoud, and the squeal is not present with the volume control off, but comes on almost immediately after cracking the volume on a little bit. It is increased by adding treble. I have retouched most of the joints, moved wires around, drastically repositioned the OT secondaries (though these leads are quite long in my build). My main concern is oscillation that will fry my OT, so I am not spending much time with the amp on to troubleshoot.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
greg

Smart move (not to mention your ears)!

It's almost certain that your NFB is hooked up backwards with respect to the OT primaries. Swap the primaries (opposite EL84s) and all should be well.

The Lightning has no NFB, but I will try swapping the leads per your suggestion.

I agree, swap the two output transformer leads, the ones to the output tube sockets, and I bet the squeal goes away. Bruce J.
