JJ 6l6 pins too small (a bad Idea?) ok here is the dumb Idea of the week.. I actually put a small dab of solder on the pins of the tube to round out the thickness just a tad.. I know this must be a bad Idea right? ps I dont plan on selling these tubes to anyone.. |

Probably wont hurt unless the temperature climbs and the actual solder melts. On a related note. I bought a matched quad of JJ 6L6's from CE dist (Antique Electronics) and the workmanship on the tube pins was horrible. They actually cost me NOS socket I had used in a new built. The edge of the pin grabbed the female side of the socket and collapsed the inside of the socket. I had them replace the tubes with Winged C's. Gary |

I hated those old Tesla/JJ oversized pins with sloppy soldering. They stretch out the pins on sockets and they can be hard to put in. I read someone saying that they supposedly did this for better contact but that seems pretty stupid if they are all supposed to be standardized for octal sockets. So the old ones were oversized and now they are slightly too small? lol... |

yeah they are not even rounded some of them I really love the sound of them they seem to bring out a warm big sound, I would think it would have to be really hot to melt solder and something else would go.. |

It might be tedious, but if you're going to do it I'd approach it as 'tinning' all around the pins, as you would do to prep solid wire. | |
