Marshall AVT100 Power Supply Frequency Conversion
I recently bought a Marshall AVT100 here in Dubai and I overlooked the power supply frequency. It is rated at 230V, 50Hz which works fine here in Dubai but I'm planning to bring it to the Philippines where the nominal voltage is 230V, 60Hz. Is there any way that I can modify the amp so I can bring it with me in the Philippines?

Hi Ronald.

Well, don't worry about it, you can't do a thing about it. The voltages might be slightly higher. One thing, put your hand often on thr transformer to check if it's not heating up too much, but i'd doubt it.

Bye.

Hi Max,

i was thinking more in the line of replacing the power transformer that is wound to 230V, 60Hz. anyways thanks for the help.

Hi Ronald!

Well that doesn't exist :D there's so litle difference in efficiency between 50 and 60 hz at a given voltage that the manufacturers don't even bother to make different transformers for the two different frequencies. If it would be 400hz like in aeroplanes, ok, but with only 10hz difference, it's not realy needed.

In fact it will work better on 60Hz, the filter caps won't have to work as hard. the transformer won't care at all.

that's a relief. i'd hate to part with the even though it's a solid state.

thanks for the input.:D
