Does it matter how the choke is positioned/oriented in relation to the power transformer for noise reduction, or does this just apply to the output transformer?

I've heard of many builders repostioning the choke in all sorts of odd angles, trying to point the gauss "null" at the PT or possibley the OT.
There was an intersting thread a few weeks ago where a DIY'r was using a set of headphones to listen for hum and rotating the choke or OT for best hum reduction.
Personally, I have found only a little difference in hum relative to the choke position as long as it was installed closer to the PT and all three magnetics, PT, OT and choke, are of decent quality.

Bruce, there was also a thread about the headphone thing on AX84 about 3 weeks ago. The conclusion there was that it wasn't always reliable. Its probably down a couple pages by now but was an interesting read.
