Speaker thoughts ... I have the 5e3 head that I am using with my 2x12 closed back and V30's. I like the sound of this cab with the amp. I also have a 1x12 semi-closed back cab that has a C12Nri. I do not really like that speaker with the amp. Clean is fine but gritty is not as nice. I tried the Cannibis Rex in my PT Pro Rev (in the Pro R Cab) and it seems nice (maybe too bright or lacking bass). I am looking for a speaker that will work well in the 1x12 cab, is rated at least 50 watts (I use the cab with other amps as well) but will have both a decent clean and driven tone. I am thinking maybe a Cannibis Rex, P12Rri, Weber of some type, Govener maybe. What will give me some nice distortion and clean tone with this amp. Then again maybe just stick with the V30. What are people's thoughts here? |

Two speakers I like are the eminence stonehenge rated at 75 watts and a weber silver bell rated at 50 watts . In a deluxe with an open back cab you should have all the highs and lows you will ever need . |

Thanks! I will take a look at those. |

Dale, I'd agree with the previous post and say the Weber Silver alnico. This speaker in combo with the Weber Blue alnico is the best sounding cab I've ever heard IMHO. Otherwise, if money is an issue, the Emi Gov or Private Jack. The Gov is darker sounding and the Private Jack covers the entire tone spectrum pretty good. If you are only going to go with one speaker in a 1 X 12 I'd say the Private Jack for my tastes anyway. Hope this helps, Casey Sackett |

Ok. Thanks! At $170 I had better like the Silver Bell! It does sound like it is worth a try though. |

Yes, the $170 seems like a lot but when you compare them to similar Alnicos they are a relative bargain. I have one in a 5E3 and see no need to look any further for a speaker. Great chime, good bass, smooth highs and loud. Mine is 30W, undoped. |

Re: Speaker thoughts ... Anyone tried ceramic version? Has anyone compared the ceramic versions of the silver bell and blue dog to the alnico versions? With the ceramics I would expect less compression, maybe a bit more bass and punch. None of these are bad things. The weight would be more with ceramic - that is not good. You might get both ceramic speakers for near the price of one alnico. I have been very happy with the sound of the ceramic magnet weber speakers I have tried so far. But they have been more comparable to vintage jensens (the models I have used) rather than the celestion flavors. I have had an alnico blue dog too - great speaker. I just thought I would ask because several folks here probably have used both and could give their first hand experience. I don't know about you guys, but the cost is a factor for me! Otherwise I might have blue dogs or celestion blue alnicos in a lot of amps. Any opinions? |
