Fizz with Mini Mass I've been experienceing a sort of fizzing sound with this amp when using my Mini Mass with greater levels of attenuation. It seems to be more prevalent/audible on clipped notes. I don't hear it at all when the mini mass is bypassed. i'm a little afraid of using the mini mass now at such low volume levels. I have the 25W one - over-rated, or so i thought, for the Deluxe circuit. could I be frying the attenuator's insides? jeez, seems like a 25W rheostat should hold up, eh? The thing DOES get warm, but not hot to the touch, but it is sealed up hermetically too. Anyone have any ideas? Aaron |

Aaron, I just ordered a Mini Mass. Weber told me the 25 watt would work fine in my 35 watt Allen Old Flame. I bought it for my Tweed Deluxe, though. How do you like it and did the buzz come after use...? Notice any change in tone with it? Al |

yes, the buzz seems to have been a recent development. no change in tone, just a buzz thats more pronounced when the amp is driven harder. *could* be something internal to the amp too. havent checked, but it seems to work fine at higher volume settings on the Mass and when bypassed. |

If you have used it on both amps with similar effect I would assume something is wrong with MiniMass and contact Ted Weber. I have a higher wattage MiniMass and have no fizz with either Tweed Deluxe or Pro. |

I had the same problem with a full size weber mass 50W pushed by a jtm45. on the high notes...it got choked and fizzy...very unfun. I'm not a fan of attenuators...there is always some part of good tone that you are trading off it seems. bart |

Well, that's not what I want to hear. My Mini Mass is arriving tomorrow. I'll let everyone know how it sounds "new" at all volumes. My Tweed Deluxe is very quite, completely stock except the bright mods. I've had my 5E3 for two years, never a problem and very reliable. It's from Bruce at Mission Amps. If my Mini Mass plays quite at first then starts to make a hiss, I'll call Weber and see what he has to say. Keep you all posted. I'm not looking to play my Tweed dimed out at 12 with the attenuator, just around 5 or 6 with the tone on about 8. It's just that the amp's too loud at home and we all know that there is no 1 on the volume knob, more like 4 from the start. Al |

| bnwitt | I have installed many(8 or 9?) of Ted Webers mini-mass units into 5E3 amps and have never had fizz or loss of tone. Granted the bass does not sound/feel the same at low volume output, but that is a frequency/decibel issue, not a mini mass problem. I think you guys had some defect in your units. |
