5E3 Complete I finished my Mission 5E3 and am pleased with the results. Amp porn follows (hope you can link): http://www.fenderforum.com/userphotos/index.html?recid=18170 http://www.fenderforum.com/userphotos/index.html?recid=18172 http://www.fenderforum.com/userphotos/index.html?recid=18173 I can probably hack together cabinet plans if anyone is interested. Let me know & I will e-mail. The cabinet is about 2" deeper than stock to handle speakers with larger overall depth. This has a Weber Alnico Silver Bell in it. I fudged on a few other dimensions but the cabinet seems well proportioned and sounds great. Have always shied away from fabric (my wife also hates sewing) so I decided Tweeding one of these was not the best way to go. |

Very nice with the wood and no tweed . How do you like the silver bell ? I have one in my 5E3 clone along with a tonker . Really hold the highs and lows very well . Did you use the 30 or 50 watt ? |

I like the Silver Bell a lot. I used the 30W since it seemed better matched to the amp output. It is so hard to compare speakers without being able to A/B them on the same amp with similar amp settings. It has beautiful chime, great touch sensitivity, stong bass and does a good job on highs without being harsh. Seems to deal very gracefuly with power of the Tweed Deluxe, even when you dig in cranked. The 50W probably would have worked well too. Which speaker do you have? Have you run it by itself or only in combination with the Tonker? What is the Tonker like? |

I also have the 30 watt silver bell . I first had it it this cab along with a eminence 35 watt alnico 12 inch so I would have a blend with a bit more top end and they sounded great together . When I got the silver bell it was for the MM amp in it's original cab as a single twelve to replace the stock speaker trying to get some bottom end . I helped alot but not enough so I got the tonker . That really has alot of bottom . I do run the silver bell or the tonker alone by switching to the 8 ohm OT tap and flipping either on/off switch to break one or the other speakers neg side . They both sound good on thier own now that its a deluxe clone chassis . In fact I may put the deluxe clone MM back in the original cab with one twelve and see how that sounds in a smaller cab . I may not fit with the larger tranformers now . Now that I made this cab and moved the stock MM chassis in there the alnico sounded shrill so I moved the bell upto the top and put the tonker in with it . Now I get a great mix . The tonker is a very powerful loud speaker . I tried a few of the new patriot and redcoat speakers . The texas heat was the first , too middy the cannabis rex , just like a texas heat but less middy and less bottom . The stonehenge , the best sounding 12 " speaker I ever hear . At least in my amps . very balanced , very strong lows and subtle mids and smooth highs . I would describe it as the best sounding 12 inch celestion out there but more of everything . The tonker is the stonehenge a bit darker that takes more power to bring to life . Webers are great speakers , I really like the sig series . I have an 8 inch for my champ a alnico sig s8 and it really improved the champ . I put the champ in the MM cab and got a weber ceramic sig 10s and made a wood ring to fit the 10 in a 12 " hole and now my champ is pretty big sounding for a 6 watt amp . I like alnicos but not when they a more than 10 speakers , unles you spring for the larger mag and voice coil alnicos they sound thin if bigger than 10 inches . I really like the look of the tweed amps cabs so some day I want to built one of those , someday . |

| bnwitt | Of work can be improved, like those beautiful statues with missing arms so don't take this the wrong way: I'd loose the teak, keeping it all honduras Mahogany and I'd work a little on the lead dress. Besides that, Holy Crap Kurt!! Great work and I'm sure she sounds sweet. I am very envious of the job. Barry |
