Anyone have experiences with the TAD 6V6GTB-STR ? The stuff I have found rates it well in a tweed style amp. I have a couple on order and I was wondering what to expect. I will mate them with 12AY7-EH and a 12AX7-M. I beleive the rectifer tube is an RCA 5y3. Any thoughts on the tubes in the mix? Ideas to try? I am assuming I can try one of my 12AX7C(9) or a second 12AX7-M for the AY if I want to at some point. Dale |

Hi Dale To my ears the TAD 6V6GTB-STRs are somewhat sweeter/creamier sounding then the EHs and way more 6V6-a like then the JJs ( great tube but a very "clean" 6V6 ). Haven't tried the 12Ax7s you do mention but a NOS 5Y3 will give a lower voltage then a Sovtek one and sag a bit more. Have fun building & tweaking, Chris |

The network at home went down on Saturday and they still do not have it going. I have to catch up from work! It sounds like they will do what I would like then. Thanks! Dale |

Chris, I think it is the same chinese shuguang 6V6 as the tube Weber sells, but TAD matches it and puts their label on them. This makes sense as TAD sells chinese-made shuguang tubes. It is harder to say if there are differences or not because you can't see in the glass. It certainly looks the same. Weber does not match them or screen them (he says they are screened by the manufacturer). Now, how about a clear bottle TAD that is similar in construction to their 6L6WGC-STR? I have only had a few of those but I REALLY liked them. |

Hi Thorny I also think they're chinese ones, like their excellent EL34B-STRs and as Bruce Collins from MissionAmps did mention some time ago over here. The 6L6WGC is truly amazing for a modern production tube, the ones I did use over here did have clear glass (from top of my head). Andreas Hecke from TAD is the inventor of the Ruby-style-testing/matching and he was the European Ruby agent before selling tubes with his own logo. I do use and sell them because of the sound and very low failure-rate. Keep on rockin' & building! Chris |

Chris, I really like the EL34B-STRs I have in my Carvin, so I hope this goes as well! Dale |

I left out some words! I should have said: Now, how about a clear bottle TAD (6V6) that is similar in construction to their 6L6WGC-STR (meaning a robust black plate tube)? I have only had a few of those (small bottle black plate 6L6s) but I REALLY liked them. I would love it if they made a blackplate 6V6 that is as good as their blackplate 6L6. If they did, they would sell a LOT of them. |
