I finished a new 5E3-ish build last night. For this one I used 5uF caps for Ck on V1 and V2a. And I used .047uF caps to couple V1 plates to the volume pots. The bottom end on this amp holds together somewhat better than a similar amp with standard cap values. But the overall tone is thinned out more than I'd like. I'll probably replace the caps with standard values one step at a time and evaluate the results.
Has anyone already been through this process?

Some players like it even thinner with a pair of .022uF caps driving the volume pots. It could be you just don't care for that tone.
.047uFs is not too far from .1uF but I'd try putting the phase inverter caps back to .1uF first.

Actually, the PI caps remain stock .1uF. Last night I replaced Ck on V1 with a 25uF cap, leaving the rest unchanged. I like the results -- though I need to play through the amp some more to be sure.
