| McCabe | first gig as a guitar tech hey, i'm going out on the road with my friends' band for a few weeks as a roadie/tech. i'm really not a guitar tech kind of guy, i'm just a guitar player that can change strings ok. the guitar player in the band breaks an average of three strings a night, so the few times i've teched for them i've been busy... my question is, does anyone have any advice as to stuff i'm going to need for this? i've got the boss tuner, which is ok but not great. and anyone know of a cheap DI box or some kind of inexpensive way i can listen to the guitars as I tune them? the guitar player plays hollow body electrics... anyway, what would your complete roadie/guitar tech kit look like, and do you have any advice? thanks in advance. this is a great forum btw... |

You should definitely get this device that is basically a hand crank which is put on the tuner knobs: Makes changing strings way faster. I can't live without that thing now ;Matthias |

| giustd | a lot of small hand tools (needle nose, screwdrivers, etc) , a set of jewelers screwdrivers, really fine sandpaper (for getting burrs out of bridge saddles), a good soldering iron, a maglite(absolutely necessary) and a sense of humor. |

One of the first things I would do is find out why the guitar player is breaking 3 strings a night. It sounds to me that there is an underlying problem with the guitar. Check and see where the strings are breaking. At the nut or saddle (bridge). Finding out the cause will make your job easier in the long run. Mike O |
