| DD | Let's talk about Teflon Again Yesterday I received some more flack from somebody on this forum for advocating the use of Teflon insulation for wiring. More specifically somebody indicated they were upset with me because I refused to admit I'm wrong about Teflon. Certainly such a charge requires another debate to ensure that we get at the truth. I certainly don't want to mislead anyone. What I've always said is that Teflon is simply the best wire insulation for the following reasons: 1. Teflon insulation has a very high melting point and does not get destroyed by heat in the soldering process. 2. Teflon insulation has a much higher voltage rating than similar thicknesses of PVC thereby providing better voltage flashover protection. 3. Teflon has a lower dielectric factor than common PVC meaning that it's use will lower stray capacitance for wiring that is either bound together in bundles or wiring that touches other conductors or wires including wiring that touches the chassis. Air is certainly always the best insulator. But when man made insulation must be used instead of air, Teflon is one of the best. So my question is this -- which virtue of Teflon is absolutely false? Is it point 1, 2, or 3? I personally think they are all correct but am willing to listen to anybody who disagrees provided that they present sound scientific evidence. Any takers? |

| anonymous | Hey DooDoo, Get someone to hold that hair you're splitting. Number 1 - Doesn't matter if you know how to solder. Number 2 - Doesn't matter at all if you select your wire correctly. Number 3 - Doesn't matter if you are working with guitar amp audio frequencies and follow proper lead dress guidelines. Lighten up dude. How much flea shit matters? |

Don't waste your time! When the fun stopped he just re-posted his points only with qualifiers that were not present in his original opening argument. It's just wankin'... ---Wild Bill |

| DD | Yes Bill. It's just wankin. Wank, wank, wank. Boy that feels good! |

| DD | Those are actually some good rebuttals. What you are saying is that mediocre wire will work fine if you do it right. Yeah, I agree with that. |

I LOVE TEFLON WIRE! I USE IT ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY! I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS! YOU'RE DEALING WITH FOOL IF THEY FEEL THEIR AMP IS BETTER BECAUSE THEY USE THIS TYPE OF WIRE OR THIS TYPE OF SOLDER... Jeff |

| DD | Well I'm glad you feel that way Jeff. You really know what you are talking about. Your input is certainly always appreciated. We need more people in this forum that can really discern what is going on and separate out the bullshit. You get a gold star my friend. You obviously are right on the ball and certainly should be commended for having insight and clarity when it comes to issues like this that can easily be misunderstood by neophytes. Again my hat's off to you cowboy. See you at the rodeo. |
