Too Crazy ??? First off thanks to everyone who answers my theological questions as silly as some of them are. I have another one. Is there such a thing as too crazy an product ? Of course music is an artistic thing and anybody can find a use for anything but there is certain line that one can cross that the "average" musician is not interested in. Its "too weird" for their taste. Stores may not carry it, not many musicians are interested it in, so all that development time is wasted. I guess the sum of my question is what does one do with such a product ? Try to target more unusual musicians ? Change the product ? When does it come time to give it up ? Has anyone here had a product that was too crazy for the general public ? Thanks to everyone once again. Andrew |

I like to focus on the difference between an instrument and a product. IMHO these things overlap to only a slight degree. I'm just not confident in my judgement about which one of my instruments might turn out to be a commercially successful product. I'm pretty good at coming up with good sounding devices though, so I play the odds and dream up 100 new things before I expect one of them might appeal to enough of the right musicians to become a worthwhile product. Plus I let other players decide where the demand is, people are actually only screaming for a couple things I have done so far. And they are not too original, you may not be the most popular if you think too far outside the box. I'm not going to stop testing instrunments just because 99percent of the effort will have no commercial outcome though, I am a hobbyist first and foremost and I like having the ability to play through a different rig every night.
