I'm broke but I'm happy
Hi fellas,
It's been nearly 10 months since I went into the amp biz full time (and about that long since I've posted here ;) ). My previous job disappeared when the family business was sold - which was a good thing...it was doing my head in big time. The good thing was that I was able to keep working from the same place - I came to an agreement with the new owners and kept a bench in the back of the unit.

Things I've learnt so far.....

- You can't make a living by building amps alone, without going into exporting. This means big bucks for certification and revised production methods.

- You make more money doing repairs then by building amps.

- You have to keep on top of the paperwork.

- Your reputation, credibility and integrity is everything - be honest.

- You need an understanding partner who is prepared to bring in another income.

- Keep track of the internet bulletin boards - (this takes an extraordinary amount of time!) sometimes you have to take the moral high ground...it's the credibilty thing.

- It's the most wonderful feeling in the world to be able to get up in the morning and actually WANT to go to work (sometimes on Sunday :D )

Apart from that, try and follow the desiderata (I do anyway ;) )

Pete.

Peter, best of luck to you, I love your stuff!

sometimes on Sunday here as well!

But I pop out of bed in the morning happy in the knowing that some guy is gonna get this pedal and make a cool sound with it and maybe be more inpsired to play!

[didn't mean to slight the women by saying guys, , but facts are facts. 99+ % of my customers are men!

Pete -

I wish there were a way to check out one of your creations over here in the US, besides waiting for the return of 30-Odd Foot of Grunts.

Q: "Say, Mr. Crowe, could I look at your Reynolds?"

A: "*&%@# no, ya don't!"

POW! BAM!

G'day Shea, how's it all going brother?

Nah, Rusty probably wouldn't let you have a fiddle ;)and I think his mind is elsewhere at the moment.
There is one in LA somewhere....

A little combo will probably be heading over there soon for a 3 month tour - I've got a meeting with the lady concerned on friday.

I've got some sound clips up on the site if you want to have a listen, remember that they're only MP3's ;)

PS - I did see that South Park episode with Russell,Tugga and Walla B - :D :D :D

In my corner of Florida, we have a little amp taste-testing & shootout coming up on May 24 - 25. Could it be worked into this 3-month tour? If there is any way we can get one of your amps here for that weekend, please e-mail me.
