Wax Potting a wooden Pickup ? I have a pickup with top-plate and the bottom-plate made of wood. Can I do a wax potting , beeswax and paraffin ,on this pickup or would it damage the wood ? Since it isn't my pickup I don't have the nerve to try it , I'm afraid damage it. Maybe IŽll try to pot some scrap wood pieces to see how it reacts. Or should I use another potting method ? And can I do a waxpotting on a pickup that's been potted with another potting method, for example lacquer potting ? I'm sure some of you guys can give some advice. Gunno |

Check out SK's website for his method. Looks like it would work, since no heat is involved. Larry |

| SK | I don't think I'd wax pot a wood bobbin unless I knew how it was assembled. Wax does contain water to a minor extent, the wood will absorb some, glue joints get quite weak. I'd laquer/poly pot it. Also note that to "dip pot" in laquer or poly it needs to be thinned in order to penetrate well. Yes, you can wax pot a pickup previously potted with something else, but the effectiveness will vary... |

Yes , the absorb thing , that was what I was afraid of and glue joints getting weak , no no no , I'll laquer pot it , haven't done it before but there's first time for everything. "Dip pot" , how do you do that , just dip it in laquer ? Thanks for the advice , SK. Gunno |

| SK | Yeah, there's two ways to laquer pot, one is dipping which generally will not penetrate fully but will work adequately, and "painting" the windings every so often during winding for a more complete potting. Personally, I feel the painting is about the same tonally as epoxy potting... |
