what's the minimum magnetizer that'll do the job?
up to A5 I guess. I'm considering getting one.

From the commercial ad copy, Alnico is the easiest to
magnetize and the smallest magnetizer should serve
unless you want to do bulk quantities.

The major US magnetizer manuf.

If I wanted one, I'd scrounge through Yahoo's listings for used industrial equipment, maybe under "business-to-business" or similar. Alternatively, you could call the magnet vendors and see if they have a small one they want to retire.

Barney at Doweling told me they use a big doughnut shaped magnet to charge smaller pieces of alnico so you might consider lookiong into that, possibly a magnet off a 2" horn driver or 15" speaker?

If that's all it takes, you could scavenge the voice coil magnets out of an old full height hard drive. Those are usually powerful samarium cobalt rectangles. You'll need Torx screw drivers.

He was specifically talking about alnico 5 rods, pickup size. I also seem to recall Fralin saying he used one in the stew mac video.

A buddy of mine had a habit of throwing his wallet in the back of a 3/10 tweed Bandmaster at gigs. After a while it erased his debit and credit cards which just happened to be noticed on a road trip.

I think Fralin in Stew-Mac video said that "he buys the polepieces non-magnetized - that he magnetize them himself using some kind of C-magnet - beveling the polepieces before they are magnetized 'cause it keeps the magnet dust away and if it came magnet dust in the coil it would make he's life hell".
Well , something like that.

SK If it's that easy to magnetize
then one would assume it's about that easy to demagnetize. Do any of you use "keepers" or anything for storing the magnets until use? Any special care other than "keep them arranged like they want to be arranged"?
