US Patents on guitar pickups, etc.
I've been uploading a whole sh*tload of patents mainly pertaining to guitar pickups but also some on control circuits and a few on other stuff:

http://www.blueguitar.org/new/misc/patents/

The PDF files have been converted into searchable text while the ZIP files are just a collection of the TIFF scans from the US Patent site:

http://www.uspto.gov/patft/index.html

If you already have the patent number this link is faster:

http://patft.uspto.gov/netahtml/srchnum.htm

I have another 200 pages (~40 patents) that I will be uploading on Wednesday night so if there are any other ones that I ought to add let me know!

--Enjoy!

I looked up some PU patents a few years ago in the PTO search room in Crystal City (now disappearing in favor of all-electronic searching). I recall there was a patent to Leo Fender on a pedal steel guitar that seemed to show a humbucking PU, and it was prior to the Seth Lover patent. But why rock the boat?

    Maybe because it's fun? [grin]

P.S. I really get a kick out of the old patent drawings with their stylized fonts!

I vaguely remember something about embodiments of ideas being patentable rather than the underlying concepts.

The Fender patent shows two separate pickups with appropriate magnetic and winding adjustments wired in a hum-cancelling configuration.

Seth Lover's design was all in one package, and that was enough for the patent examiners on both sides.

By this precedent, Bill Lawrence's patent on blade pickups and noise cancelling configurations is not infringed by Joe Barden's or Duncan's humbucking blade pups.

How do you get those full patent diagrams? In the past I've tried to get patents (ie: Groove Tubes Speaker Emulator) and I couldn't get enough information.

By the way, if anyone has a schematic of the GT SEII or Holdsworth's Harness or Juice Extractor I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks
Jeff
