Re: bobbin material I use cyano glue also,it works pretty good. The thin stuff seeps right into the magnet/forbon seam and seems to hold pretty well, as long as it isn't real loose to begin with...that's where the water soak comes in handy. Wolfe |

| Stan Williams | Guys, this is my method for small numbers. I use templates for top and bottom plates, and cut stacks all at once on a shaper table. One piece bobbins could be routed to shape with a little planning. I know this is not as easy as buying them but it sure makes it easy to change sizes and spacing. My templates cut 7 different pole spacings for any string width, can you imagine how expensive that would be to have molds made for all 7. Anyway, I'm just a little guy. |

I have carved bobbins out of wood. Actually, I am building a wooden bobbin at the moment that is the same size shape as a P90 (hight and width)on the bass strings(Strings EAD), which tapers to a thinned width(and greater highth) at the treble end (Strings GBE) (Like a strat.) If anyone is interested, I can draw a diagram and email it to you, when I get the time. Dick |

I have an e-book by Martin Koch , he's an austrian guitarbuilder who makes pickups , in that he's using 2 mm (3/32") plywood for bobbins. Prespane ( a type of compressed cardboard ), have you ever heard of that , I haven't. That's what a finn , Matti Nevalainen , also a guitarbuilder uses to make bobbins. Gunno |
