bobbin material are there any alternatives to using Forbon material for making bobbins? say like mica? |

I don't know about mica, but there's many materials, lexan, plexi, circuit bd, micarta, etc etc. Forbon is traditional and relatively cost effective. "Traditional" holds alot of weight w/ players. |

so your saying that it has some specific acoustic properties? which would be important from a commercial sale point of view but for a personal home project it might not be necessary? |

Forbon's best qualities when Leo Fender started using it were that it was cheap, plentiful, and easily machined. On the down side, it must be stored flat and soaks up water a bit. If you only want to experiment, you can make pickup flats out of anything that's stiff enough: countertop surface scraps from the local harware store (formica, corian, etc.), acrylic plastic, nylon sheet, epoxy-coated cardboard, whatever. Warning: get the fancy titanium-coated bits for drilling Corian(tm). -drh -- | |

One good thing about Forbon and it's water-soaking abilities, is that if a magnet is sitting a bit loose, you can soak it. The water will cause the material to swell just a bit, holding the magnet tighter. Wolfe |

i can see its advantages and diadvantages as well it being tempermental with regards to water and possible high humidity or even heat to me make its easy workability a toss up couldnt you use super glue for a loose pole magnet or would that work? |
