Re: In other words
Yes Wolfe, and that's where everyone else is touchy as well. Since everyone's being touchy no-one gets anywhere. Sounds like you missed out on a deal, a pretty uncommon deal at that.
I kinda feel the same way, and it's natural actually. "I had to do "this" to get "here", you should too".
It's generally the big time suppliers we protect, but against who? The minimum orders and fees will keep all the non-players out anyways. But there does need to be a place to get all the stuff reasonably at "one source". The company/person that puts that together will have themselves a nice little side market(not enough to float a business). Hell, I'd probably pay a little more to order everything from one supplier, at least the difference in shipping/handling totals, just for the convenience.

That's kinda what we're working on, in a way. I know I sure as hell would love a "one-stop-shoppe"

For now, I'll bet you didn't know that Allparts has Mini-Humbucker parts, did ya? Shite, I just found out myself!
Also, with this HB parts order, we should be able to get a P-90 bobbin or two as a sample...

What is the magnet size for Mini-Humbuckers?

Gibson has a tweaked version using three different magnet types, so I wonder what that's about.

It's a lot easier to order off-the-shelf Alnico 2 blocks than it is humbucker-sized bars.

Unfortunately, I don't know what the magnet size is, but I know they're different. Jason might know though, I think he has one in his shoppe currently.
I might inquire at Allparts to see if they carry those magnets as well.

I got an original 60's Gibson Mini Humbucker right here and the magnet comes in at 2.3 long x 0.47 wide x 0.125 thick, in inches of course...

So she's pretty much the same as a standard HB magnet.

No kidding?

Do you have the mini-HB bobbin's length, height, and core width handy?

If the mini-HB has the same magnet size, then maybe it's got the same coil spacing and magnetic aperture ... unless the bobbins are shallower than normal.

For comparison, SK's spec on the mini-HB coils is:
Wire - #42Poly
Windings - 4250 CCW
Rdc - 3.35k
Magnet - A5

From only the specs, it starts to look like an underwound humbucker, e.g., the Duncan Jazz Model, but they don't exactly sound like 'em, do they?

bobbin: 2.514"L, .512W, .320H, core width .135", core length 2.062" Magnet specs 2.31x.485x.124"
The firebird pickup is very similar, uses the same sized bobbins but the magnet specs at 2.02x.316x.122 and are inserted into the bobbins as "rails".
