I don't believe so. Many Mesa's are...

A cascading amp usually has a boost switch or overdrive that routes the signal through another channel or through another half of a preamp tube increasing gain.
On a casual inspection of an unpotted single coil pickup you probably wont hear any difference, play it for a few hours and youll hear it then you wont know how you ever missed it.
I can say its really hard to get it right, be prepared to regect alot of coils.

Jason, we discussed this once in passing. I prefer unpotted, but pot all mine for "production reliability". You never know exactly how they will be put to use or handled. And this latest information you provided makes me glad I do...

I used to not pot anything but anymore I normally pot any Fender style unless specifically asked not to as it helps hold the whole bobbin together. With 90's I still often do not pot if I know who is buying it and what they are going to run it in.

I use wax potting in my actives then they are encased in epoxy.... I tried some without the wax to see what effect this would have and they definitely went a little harsh.... The wax seems to soften the transient peak somewhat...

Seems you find the same thing Tony.

What I concluded with the clav pickups is that your not trying to solidify the coil which is whats commonly thought, your trying to dampen the coil. Solidifying it can make it sound pingy or even make it feed back worse under extreme amplification.

Yeh exactly... I can see that using very brittle epoxy could possibly increase 'natural' resonent frequency...

What do you think..
