Insulating pickups Hi guys, I was wondering what you thought about insulating pickups (with aluminium foils over the coils after winding) Good idea, or bad idea Thanks again Dick |

Could be both good and bad. While reducing noise, it Can cut high frequency. Can also cut a wind and cause a short. Can also cut your skin if you're not careful. It hurts. Wolfe |

Dick, I know of one fairly famous maker who foil wraps all his coils. In fact EMG used to - don't know if they still do. Whatever 'tis best to fully ground any wrapping, can be awkward to get a good ground with aluminium foil but a good solder will do the job - but be careful you don't damage the coils. Andy |

I believe EMG use thin guage brass sheet... and Dick brass is better for soldering, you should be able to get some from the local model shop... its really thin stuff, at a guess I'd say 0.25mm maybe or thinner. You could cut it with a good pair of scissors so its thin alright... Tone |
