Re: Separation of church and state Maybe someone with a better history background could write to this. The French empire was governed by four esates. The church was one of them and was know as the fourth estate. Problem was that with an even number of 'estates', an alliance between two meant gridlock and nothing would happen. Made it hard on the people. England fixed the problem by incorporating church into the government and kicking out the Roman Catholic Church. The USA made it unconstitutional to incorporate any church into government. France had an awful revolution in order to find a solution. I'm not sure they ever did. The Pope withdrew or just lost power in Europe I guess. Anyone else? |
