Paul Berman's opinion was that. If you'd ask that of mine, I think the primary reason was Palestine. Or perhaps Conzerella the Amazon needed a new enemy. I dont know for sure. Everything else seems to be of secondary degree importance. In Turkey students do not bring guns to the schools because there's no rival gangs around. I'd like that to stay that way. As Mark Ingram has pointed out, the problem's origin is probably lack of moral education. IMO church and state does not need to be separated that much. Separation in general is good, I'm not sure about strict separation. Or... find some other source of moral values instead of religion. As a solution, we have not opted for strict separation. For secularism to work in an Islamic country, that was necessary anyway. If you dont want your children to get religion education in schools, you dont have to. It's not an obligation, and I dont consider its existance to be a problem. Kursad | |

Maybe Im wrong here... but I believe that many folks have a wrong interepetation of that. The Church used to be a form of government over the people, owning lands, etc. When "we" came over to the US, we didn't want that same kind of control coming from the church, seeing the damage it could do from what happened in Europe. Therefor Church is not alowed to be a governing body. However, there is still the influence of church/morals in government. You'd have to really interpet laws way differently to see that. Take the pledge, for example, "In God we trust" |
