Re: Geraldo - WTF? + "Other" News
An excellent item I heard on CBC radio's "As It Happens" last night (also available on many NPR affiliates stateside) explained it very nicely. The folks being interviewed suggested that "reporter culture" typically wants to move towards providing the most information possible - that's how they normally provide "better" stories. As such, their instincts run kind of anathema to what is needed at the moment. They suggested that most embedded reporters, unless they were veterans of war coverage, would probably require some sort of breaking-in period before they understand how much is too much.

Gil, I'm no expert on this so correct me if I'm wrong -- granted, Geraldo has rights, but his rights as an American citizen don't exist for him in Iraq, do they? Aren't our Constitutional Rights only exercisable within the confines of the USA? It seems that alot of Americans go to foreign nations and mistakenly assume that their rights travel with them.

Re: Geraldo - WTF?
If people weren't dying I'd be laughing my ass off right now at what a media circus this whole thing has become- what a joke. And Geraldo's right in the thick of it again, as always, right on time as expected...

He's one of a small assortment of small-minded lunatics (along with Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Jerry Falwell (sp?), Pat Robertson, et. al.) who stick there head out of their hole every few years and renew their 15 minutes of fame again whenever there is a "crisis". For some reason, someone somewhere thinks someone out there gives a rats ass about the opinions of these chuckleheads, and we hear from them yet again. It's beyond me...

In any case, maybe we'll luck out and the Iraqi's will put him in front of a firing squad...

I remember when Geraldo gained his notoiety by uncovering the Willowbrook State School mess in the late 60's. That was on Staten Island, where I was born and raised.

After that he became obviously more and more in love with himself. The sad part of it all is that he still gets air time after repeatedly being a jerk. Giving him any kind of credence is revolting.

I never heard that he is a lawyer, I don't know if he is or not.

He came as a reporter, imbeded or not, contract or not, he took his chances. He arrived in good graces with the armed forces. Now it seems he won't cooperate. the next step should be, drive off an leave him. I think he would wise up quick! If I was part of the camera crew and I knew this was the next step. I would be on the next flight home!
