| Kursad K | Re: Let us not forget... Normally it's a good idea to keep the number of lives that has been lost as a secret until the war ends. There's no need to upset people with body counts. (No matter what Matt in TX may think!) Kursad |

Not impressed For someone that is trying to help your cause with your people, you sure aren't doing well. In fact, the more you speak, the more I am convinced we are doing the right thing. |

Who are my people? Iraqis? IMO people are people. It doesn't matter whether they are Iraqis, Americans, Arabs, Jews, Greeks, whatever. We do not have an common phrase called "american lives" or "turkish lives" in our language.
I think you cant stand any criticism! Your opinion is fixed because of 9/11, so I am not trying to change it anyway. Kursad

I feel you are both out of line! Kursad, unless you have some hard evidence, you have no right to question the facts as they are presented. It seems to me that you are just trying to cast some doubt. Do you have some personal interests (or line of reasoning) in which to apply the lie you are implying? Matt, it's real war and real people are dying. To some of us it doesn't matter what country or religion they are from....... it's NOT funny! |

Since US and Iraq are reporting conflicting numbers it's clear that someone is lying. IMO one should not assume that just Iraq is lying, both are equally likely. Kursad

There is this site: http://www.iraqbodycount.net/bodycount.htm Which compiles minima and maxima for the numbers of Iraqi civilians killed from various sources. Probably the most reliable figures going ... So far as I know there isn't anything similar dealing with coalition casualties. The BBC recently quoted the figure of 36% for ALL casualties in the war resulting from non-friendly fire -- ie, coalition killing Iraqis or vice versa. The sobering implication is that 64% of all deaths so far have been accidental (helicopter crashes, friendly fire etc.). Of course, like all such figures presented during wartime, that figure is questionable. As Kursad says, each side has their respective agendae for under/overestimating casualties, combatant and civilian. In this particular war (where the PR is designed, on the one hand, to make it look like we're doing fine and killing plenty of Iraqi soldiers, and on the other hand to appease the mass of negative public opinion about the war by sanitising it as much as possible), those agendae are even more convoluted. We should be sceptical about all figures, no matter which side they come from. Check various sources, etc. Robert |
