| Frank DeSalvo | Sleeb, I believe you are referring to "Steve Piquing" the infamous West Indian "Nad Monger". Steve was made famous in the late 18th century after he discovered a new way to process the extract of the Guggola Tree into a thin rubbery material called "mapex". No, don't think of the cheap drum kits. Anyway, this material was found to be very tolerant to flexing. Naturally, this material found its' way into the Indian profalactic Black Market and replaced the then outlawed elephant testicle as the material of choice as the Indian Pachaderm was nearing extinction. Steve coined the name "Piqu-o-lactics, " which, of course, referred to the condoms made from counterfeit elephant testes. According to local lore, Travis was a trophy elephant hunter and preferred the large Indian Bull Pachaderm for it rather large testicles and as he so eloquently stated, "it's ability to put up one hell of a fight when cornered." He was known to use primitive weapons in his attempt to "take out" these large beasts. Most notably, he would employ the use of his trusty pontoon oar, "Mr. Happy". Sadly, Mr Steven Piquing died from severe head trauma as he was attempting to remove the testicles from a large male bull elephant after failing to completely incapacitate the animal with Mr Happy. I hope this clears things up for you and that you too can benefit from this tragic episode in human history. ~F |

Editing posts here... Frank: Try clicking on the BACK button in your browser... if it goes back to the reply entry screen with your previous post entered in the scrolling text box you are in business! Make whatever edits you need to make and then resubmit the message; it should replace the post you had just made. I had problems getting that to work when I switched to IE6 from NS4.7— hitting the BACK button would often go back to an empty reply screen. I screwed around with some of the cache and memory settings in IE and it works a lot better now, but if I have a bunch of browser windows open I might still get the blank reply screen. What the heck... it is worth a try to keep from ruining a good joke. Steve Ahola P.S. You do this stuff at work? |

hmm...much confusion. I would call what's described in the article as "finger picking." I thought "Travis picking" was that the guy held a flatpick in between his thumb and index finger, then finger picked with middle, ring, pinky. With that description, you could use bare fingers or a thumbpick or whatever. It makes it sound like it's the style, not the technique. |

I agree, I have always heard of Travis picking as holding a flat pick with thumb and forefinger, and picking with the remaining fingers. I generally do it with only my middle finger, but I don't suppose there is a limit to number of fingers used. |
