Guitar Direct to PA Live Rig
Guys what wolud you reccomend ?
I have tried every floorunit out there, and ampsimilators and all they suck in one or another way. I want to build up a SMALL rig for direct to PA (no combos, no speakers..)
I don't know if I buy good xpencive Tube Pre and just go Direct to Mixer how this is going to affect the sound.
Anyone with experience outh there !?!?!?

First off: I love my arsenal of tube amps. I love tweaking tinkering with my amps.

But when I play out with a group I use a Johnson J station directly into the board. The main reason I use the J ststion is, it's easy to get a good mix. folks don't come to see us fool around with gear or hear a poorly mixed music. We play small venues so... not very loud generaly at or below 100db.

I usualy use the tweed setting, sometimes It still amazes me how good it sounds.

On the other hand when I play out solo I usualy play my tweed princeton. cuz it sounds great and it's easy to carry :)

I agree with the tweaking thing, people don't want to see a band tweak, they want music now. I have a j-station, it's ok, a little noisy, I tried to use it for a duo gig once, even the clean settings were kinda noisy with single coils. Some of the sims are decent though, I like the marshall plexi, it works.

What about using a small amp?

We all love our tube amps. True, true, true. I must say however, that the best direct rig I have ever used is a Line6 POD 2.0 I started playing guitar professionaly in a church. The sanctuary was terrible for amp tones so I started experimenting with DI boxs of all kinds. ZOOM stuff, digitech, all of it. When I found the POD, my eyes were opened wide. Great tones, great simulators and cabinet emulators. I just asked the guy to feed me a decent amount of monitor. I have moved on to other projects but never have given up my POD. Try it, you will like it

My favourite direct to desk setup: A Roland GP-8 with a Marshall DRP-1 in the GP-8's fx-loop. Works great, and is cheaper than almost anything else. (That is, if you can still find a GP-8 and a DRP-1.)

I would recommend... not doing it. Avoid that at all costs. Get a small amp and mic it. It will be better 100% of the time. Unless it's an acoustic ;)

What about something like Rocktron Prophecy!?!
Combination of tube pre, digital FX and Speaker sim!?!?!
A combo is way big for me, I can hardly take it on the airplane and we are traveling a lot.
