Sacha	Output tranny : PV Classic 50 Hi pals, I was discussing with Trace Allen (VooDoo Amps) on another forum, and he told me the output tranny is the weak spot in these amps... so if I want to replace it, what should I look for ?

I've wondered about that myself, tho concening my C30. I've come to the conclusion that as simple and pure tube as the c30's circuit is, and with all the mods and experimenting i've done, the only thing that remains as a possible reason the amp can't seem to get into killer boutique territory is the tranny. Mine sounds great with the mods i've done, and i'm quite happy with it. But i just know it's capable of totally killer tone, and i too think it's only the tranny that keeps it from getting there.

I can't find the thread (seymourduncan forum) but Trace did confirm the output xformers ARE the weak points... dark and dull.

I'm in the same position as you, fine tubes (JJ/EH mix, no NOS!

), great speakers (G12H/V30), nice components (OD and Mica)... although Trace and other wouldn't recommend mica's, they seem to complement well with the dull sounding xformer...

I think I'll start asking elsewhere...

dale	did you ask.... Trace? Or did he just not know? I always suspected the OT because of it's very small size and the fact that it looks as tho it came from some cheesy japanese amp from the 70's or something. But then i would think if there is a replacement that would improve it greatly, wouldn't it be a known tweak that we'd long since heard about?

Sacha	Yes I asked Trace on the SeymourDuncan forum but due to a problem the thread has been deleted, I haven't asked him back... should I ? Ok I will... But Trace did confirm they were weak and blocking high freq's ... So that's the question : which replacement ?? :\

Yea.what replacement and any info on wiring it up.

By the way, i asked this at the PRS fprum and Andy Fuchs answered me and said you cannot go wrong with a Mercury Magnetics tranny. I went to thier site, but there are no C30 trannys listed, so it would be a custom wind i guess. Anyway, i'm calling them today to ask and i'll post the results here.

By the way...MM actually have a "tone satisfaction" money back guarantee !! If you don't think it improves the tone to your satisfaction you get a refund !!! I'd say thats confidence in your product !
