attenuator inductors ?? - bruce collins ? Hi all, I'm having a go at building a simple L-pad attenuator for home practice/recording use and I've read that they sound poor if they are purely resistive. I seem to remember that bruce collins had a circuit that was simply an L-pad but the two resistances each had an inductor in series. any one know what sort and value inductor i should try and use ? I have no feeling about the inductance required. How about trying inductors that are in an old computer PSU ? I have no idea what value of current rating they might be - they have thickish wire (1mm) on a quite small torroid (~15-20mm). Im using the PSU box as the housing of the attenuator and mount the 10 W wirewound resistors on a big lump of metal as a heatsink. I'm using 2 or 3 10W units parallel. this is for a 15 W amp. any advice or schematics welcome ! cheers, Gareth. |

| Man o'Blues | Bruce's volume reducer diagram is posted on: http://blueguitar.org/ He suggests two .33mH 150W inductors for a more natural speaker tone. BTW, have you heard of the Weber MASS? You can buy the MASS motor and build your own reactive attenuator. |
