De Armond Tremolo Unit Hey guys! Anyone have any idea what liquid was in the cannister in the old De Armond mechanical tremolo units? |

Joe: It had been speculated some months ago that it was mercury, but (RG to the rescue) it is more likely to be an electrolytic solution of some sort. Once it's dried up it's dead. A buddy of mine has one that is minty in the box. I'd love to resurrect it....maybe one day a soution will come back to the future... Marc |

I was thinking the same thing..... I'm going to go ahead and use a syringe and inject some and give it a try.. I'll let you know the results. Thanks! Joe |

Hi Joe I saw your post on the DeArmond unit on Ampage. Did you try anything yet? These tremolo units are pet projects of mine (sort of an obsession, stemming from a guitar show I attended several years ago). 1. DO NOT put in mercury. 2. I can give you detailed instructions on how to restore it. I'll send you some info - and some photos if it will help. Dan |
