Beginner Info I just started building small stomp box projects and I need some help. If anyone could direct me to a site or send me email or something. First of all I am building an MXR distortion+ and I saw on the schematic the IC says is a 741. is that like LM741. I also I need some info on the switching stuff. like I don't know what people mean when they are talking about bypass switching and stuff like I didn't know there was anyother way. I'm not a total idiot but I stillneed help thanks -xan |

OOPS! You can get almost everything from Smallbear. I found a source for your op-amp here. http://www.jameco.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/Jameco/searchResult.d2w/report?sort=BKW&search=LM741 Good Luck & Have Fun! RDV |

you dont have to use a 741, you could use a TL0x1 or an ne5532. Any opamp could be used, long as you knew the pinouts. The following words are deeply patronising, but i wanted to see if i could make it work. "Bypassing is pretty simple. The concept is that you dont always want to have all your effects on your guitar at the same time. The easiest analogy would be a train. It runs from the first station (your guitar) to the last station (the amp). There are a number of stops in between (your pedals). Now, just because the train isnt stopping at a station doesnt mean the station should be closed. Otherwise it's gna take a while to fill up again. Thats why all the effects are left on when theyre in use. However, you may not want to stop at every station, so the train would be diverted onto a different set of rails so it could speed past the station, and then diverted back onto the mainline. The station is completely isolated from the line, or the effect is totally isolated from the signal path. That's bypassing." griff |
