pcb lacquer problem/ Pulsar tremolo problem Hi, I ordered some pcbs at a local shop to build the Pulsar from http://www.tonepad.com When I started soldering I noticed that it didn't go to well. Later I discovered that there was some kind of lacquer or varnish (how do you call it in english?) on the pcb(on the copper too). Now my pedal isn't working properly and I suspect bad soldering welds (because of the lacquer). How can I make this right? What should I do with such a pcb before I solder something on it? Thanks, Geert J. |

How did you etch the pcb? If it had a lacquer coat the etching solution wouldn't have worked. After etching I scrub the board down withe steel wool and when soldering I use a non-acidic liquid flux on every solder joint. |

The pcbs were made at the store. I had a pcb made at another store a few years ago and I had no throuble soldering that one. I guess that the Pulsar pcbs I got now are finished with a protective coating that I should have scrubbed of before soldering (or something like that...) G. |

Usually commercial pcbs are lacquer coated except for very small tinned pad areas for soldering. They should not need preparation. Did you use any liquid flux? |

| alf | Hi Geert, Maybe after etching the copper traces weren't cleaned well . I always use "Aceton ". Groeten Alfons van Luyt |

| darren | the lacquer applied to pcbs allows you to solder thru with no problems. Check to make sure it's not somethings else like your wiring etc. I don't think lacquer would be the issue. |
