Re: How Do You Guys Lable Your FX Boxes?
fine paintbrush, paint and a lil spare time.

I usually go for a graffiti style look, it looks cool and is nice n bright. You can do some arty stuff too, i had a black box i covered in lightning strikes, made all the lettering out of lightning as well, was cool.

or you could be boring and just spend some time doing some normal lettering, but why would you want that?

I envy anyone that has a bit of an artistic bent and can pull off painting their own lettering.
Unfortunately most hand painted one's I've seen look pretty bad.

For a lo-tech solution, I've used Avery full page labels printed out on an Inkjet/Laserjet printer. I use plain paper at first until I get the label lined up just right, then I run a label through. Cut it to size, punch out the holes, peel the back and there you go!

Microsoft Word has a "WordArt" feature where you can wrap numbers or words in a circle. That's particularly helpful for labeling a volume knob.

Of course, I don't know how truly "durable" these would be if I were gigging every night!

Hi Joe Fuzz

What's the Avery number for the full page labels you use?

I've been using some clear label I had but full pedal top would be cool. And I'd be willing to give that a try for my next project.

Thanks for your help.

Plastic Dymo lables under the paint, then letters picked out in contrasting colour with gel pen, then clear coat.

Here's a sample of box that I made and decorated with lazertran decal paper, then overcoated with a few coats of clear lacquer.

I forgot where I read about "Mod Podge," but it works great. Get it in most craft stores.

I use a color laser printer to make full-color face plates (images, photos, lettering, whatever you want). Then I spread a layer of Mod Podge and position the paper. Then I build up layers of MP on top of the paper, letting it dry between coats. Then coat with clear enamel.

The MP is glue with enamel so it dries clear and hard, and you can really build it up to a thick finish.
