bnwitt 6L6 conversion question for Bruce
Bruce,
I was going over your 6L6 conversion for the 5E3 and I have a question. You say replace the 1k5 screen resistor with a 1k screen resistor and wire it like a 30 or 50 watt black face circuit. I have checked several fender schematics and can't seem to find what you are talking about on the sockets. Could you give me a Fender model # that has that different set up please?
thanks

Bruce,
Also if you have a good 30 or 35 watt OT for this conversion I need one.

I think just about any 30 to 50 watt blackface Fender amp has the layout.
Look at a Super Reverb AB763.

I use 470-1w to 1500-2w values, soldered on the power tube sockets (lug 6 to 4) for the screen resistors with the screen supply B+ fed at lug 6 and.
The 1500 ohm grid stopper is moved and soldered in from lug 1 to 5. Grid (signal lead) wire is now attached to lug 1.
I then remove and lower the 5000 ohm resistor, (voltage dropping node between the first two filter caps) to 2200 to 2700 ohms.
This 2200-2700 ohm resistor would be in the same location as the choke in the Super reverb.

Yes, I still have a few OTs left used for the 6L6s version.
It is rated about 25-30 watts and has a 4 and 8 ohm tap so it can still be used with 6V6s.
If you want the 6V6s, you'd connect the 8 ohm speaker to the 4 ohm tap to get the primary zed back up where 6V6s run.

Bruce,
thanks for the info. How many of the trannies do you have? So if I put a toggle switch on the 4ohm/8ohm wiring, I could make the amp a multi tube unit then?
