What's in every amp builder's toolbox? Getting ready to build my first amp (hopefully a 5E3, if Bruce has any kits left). Curious, what do you all consider essential tools? Just for the chassis, the cabinet comes later. I'm thinking; soldiering iron (duh!) needlenose pliers wire cutters wire strippers screwdrivers, etc. multi meter calculator patience What else? Thanks folks!! Darren |

Well, I have three kits left Darren. I think the whole shipped weight is about 14lbs. Shipping is a little more but to Canada, but I'd use the good old USPS to send it... things seem to get there with the least hassle that way. I like those inexpensive screwdrivers with interchangeable tips. A nut driver set is very very handy, I use the heck out of mine. Medium diameter rosin core solder. Solder wick is good to have around too. A 35 watt solder iron pencil is good and I use my 100/140 watt solder gun quite a bit too. A small hunk of medium or 00 steel wool is good to have to burnish compomemt leads prior to soldering. Bruce |

I'd add hemostats, they come in handy for routing wire, crimping, holding something in place, etc. Just make sure everything is off and discharged (since they are metal). I also use a pair of long tweezers for retrieving bits of wire that have been clipped off. I also have one of those "helping hands" things, the little stand with the adjustable arms with alligator clips. Comes in handy for holding things in place. Was a Unibit on the first list?
