5E3 head i've got a 5E3 project that's nearing completion. though i've decided that i want to make it into a head. my grandfather is a carpenter and i plan on having him make the cab out of a nice hardwood. just wanted to know if anyone else had done this? any suggestions for particularly nice wood? --tip |

Some of my first Soulkicker amps were hot rodded 5E3 type amps but in a head chassis/cabinet. With the multitap secondary OT I used in those, they were very cool and lots of fun with bigger 4x10, 4x12 or 2x12 speaker bottoms. A nice wood to use is clean poplar and stain it in a brownish cherry color. Bruce |

I think a head is a good idea. It would be very flexible. |

Bruce: First...where do you get the multi-tap transformers for use in a 5E3 circuit ? Also, where do you get just a plain 5E3 PT ? I know you're using a much beefier one than is stock. / frankenstein |

The multi tapped primary PT is the MOJO Tweed Deluxe PT. The Schumacher PT used in the kit is a standard Deluxe one from New Sensor. It's only a few ma higher rating then a standard 5E3. They both work well. Bruce |

Thanks Bruce ! I really like the idea of the multi-tap. I'll check it out. The Deluxe sounds SO good and the lower power is perfect for practice and most venues (when miked). I started out with a New Sensor PT - but got cold feet when I realized how much larger (physically) it was. I traded it off for a smaller transformer. Now I wish I'd kept it ! /frankenstein |
