| anonymous | A former Torres associate speaks out I usually post my name and email but since I've already been on the verge of going to court with Torres I'll remain anonymous. I am one of three people that purchased Torres DFranchises a few years back. Within one year all three were down the tubes. The price was nearly 100,000. With Vintage guitar magazine as a cover I thought surely this guy must be legit. My first installment was 5,000.00 for the supposed 5,000.00 inventory I was supposed to recieve. Guess what I got? A box full of part from Mouser worth about 200.00 and a box full of wires and old parts pulled out of amps. And of course my "training" amp. A Silver Face Bandmaster that looked like it had sat on in salt water for ten years. Was I slightly disapointed? Yes, but I so much wanted to believe that all of the hype (like, you can make 100,000.00 a year working on tube amps)was true. Geez was I green! Dan did train me for two weeks, and he generously "threw in" his guitar tech training which he said was worth 25,000. (I am really not kidding). So here I am working on high voltage equipment, trained by a guy with no electronic training schooling or back ground of any kind. (he's very proud of the fact that he figured out the entire process of working on tube amps, by himself in one night. Don't you wish you were that smart?) When people came back time after time and wanted me to remove the Torres Mods I had installed I began to figure out something was up. It was only after I began learning from guys that know what there doing like John Atwood, Rodger Modjeski, and the guys on Ampage that I saw the light and unlearned all the total garbage Torres taught me. Any slams Torres recieves on this or any other site are totally deserved and you should heed all warnings to stay away from doing any business with him. This guy is a rip off artist and a liar. If you only knew the stories I could tell you, your hair would curl. I wish I could say that I was exagerating but I'm not. I was a total Idiot and left a good paying job to pursue what I thought was the "dream job". Ain't no such thing. When you read the posts from all of these guys warning you about Torres, listen and learn. I wish the internet had been around when I started being interested in tube amps and could have read warnings about Torres. You can learn more about tube amps by reading the posts on Ampage for one day than anything Torres knows. This account is completely true. You've been warned! |

Torres franchises... was he going to call them "Hack in a Box"? So there would be a drive-up window and you'd give your order to the clown... I guess that isn't that much different from placing a phone order with Torres right now. As for his "gig" with Vintage Guitar magazine, I believe that the columnists are not paid in cash, but are given a short stack of VG mags that they can sell at their shop. Sort of like selling Grit magazine when you were a kid... not exactly the most lucrative job. Steve Ahola |

You gotta admire someone who can wade in inthe middle of a slam fest(even a level headed slam fest as this is) and place an advertisement for himself. That speaks of unending positive attitude, and even though I'm not a fan of the work, I have to say that I am inspired by the outlook he must have on life. So Cheers to you Dan. What a guy. Life would be ever the much duller without you around. |

I guess "no defense" is good defense or it could also be viewed as admission. Either way it's ironic that you actually find the time to hang out on this site but you never post. People wonder why many of us do not like to post our mods here, hmmm (ha, ha) At any rate I think that the amp-modding business is a lot like being a doctor... you can make a positive difference, until you stop caring.
