Re: Cheap Guitars
I love the Doelectros--the ones with the lipstick pu's, like the DC3s, Mods and Hodads, not the new stratocopies with built-in efects. I AB'd a Mod with a Mexican Strat, and the Dano (to my taste) beat the Strat in tone, versatility and playability--everything but "vibe" (and no trem). I bought a 12 string, and if I had the cash handy I would have gone for a 6 and a baritone, too.

Have pawn shops everywhere gone nuts as far as thinking that everything 10+ vears old is a priceless golden heirloom, or is it just another example of San Francisco becoming an unlivable economic hell? I regularly see things like the beat-up L6S (w/"distressed" cherry finish & badly slapped on chrome Floyd Rose...mmm, tasteful!) for $700, the silverface Deluxe for $750, or the s/s Vox Whatever for $850. The best part is seeing these things sit there for upwards of a year, unsold. You'd think some of these places would, uh, get it eventually, but not in the three years I've been here. Of course, I remember being a stupid, penniless kid in Detroit 10-12 years ago, thinking "hmm...$600 for a Les Paul? Too rich for my blood!". I guess this "vintage" thing has really changed the game. Sheesh.
