Which way do they go? The short way around the magnet or the long way?

The long way like any other pickup. I wondered the same thing a while back so I tore mine apart to find out. Luckily it went back together easily.

Someone oughta try winding a pickup the other way (the way you'd expect a lipstick to be wound given its form) to see what it sounds like - I'll get around to it myself some day.
