Re: Fret dressing OK guys, thanks for all the answers. My reason for asking is that I figured out there is no-one in my area doing this kind of job, but a lot of people asking me. Maybe I should get a book, a file or two and some crap necks to practise on. BTW, have you ever noticed how people think their guitar needs refretting when a dressing or maybe just a proper setup will do it? Also, a guy in a music store in my town told me they've had customers suggesting a swap around of the frets, moving the worn frets to the body end of the neck since they never play that high... |

Anders, That's the lamest advice regarding fret work that I've ever heard! You replace worn out frets, you don't put them somewhere else on the guitar. I guess that's the same guy who puts his bald tires on the rear because the front wheels do the steering. You really can do this yourself. Get the "Don't Fret" tape from StewMac a mill smooth file, a crowning file, 400/600 sandpaper and 0000 steel wool and you are there. I'd be shocked if after getting the tape and watching it, you posted that you screwed it up. |
