Robot tech blues
Yeah, yeah... but I'll bet that tiny little robot doesn't wear an earring with a pony tail and play blues gigs in the evenings after soldering all day... Anyway, who wants an amp that continually emits rosin fumes? | |

I don't care what Herr Fliegler has to cay about that amp. It's digital, therefore, it's crap. Reconfigures my ass. The most it can do is reroute the signal from one part of the amp to another. It's imopossible to recreate all the subtleties and nuances that each particular amp had based on the tube congiguration and individual components such as capacitors and resistors of a certain value/constitution. Damned insulting... I bet Ol' Leo's turning in his grave...or maybe he's turning in his jar-ever see that cartoon 'Futurama'? |

| JM | From what I've read about Leo Fender he was a businessman who sold equipment to musicians, wanting to be successful, he decided to listen to some of these musician's needs so that he could create a more desirable product. Today Fender has found that they are more successful pushing a boat load of crap on a bunch of people who either don't yet, or never will hear the difference between the junk they are building and a real amp. Rolling in his grave? Hardly, I would say applauding and cheering them on would be more like it. JM |

| giustd | whew...there's a lot of venom here..that's ok, I live in the Northeast, I'm used to it... I'm a tube amp guy, always have been. I don't even like fuzzboxes and overdrives. Even the "good" ones sound like shit to my ears. What this last guy says is true. Fender listened to what the musician's wanted, built it, sold it. Keep a couple things in mind here, boys. Fender and Marshall built tube amps because that was the only technology available to them. As soon as solid state became available, they used it. And so it goes with digital. I don't see fender abandoning their tube amp line, I see them trying to compete with the POD and all those other modeling boxes. Guys that want tube amps (whether they can discern the difference or not) will buy tube amps. This cyber-twin thing is obviously a lot of hype, yeah, ok..it's marketing, that's all. Hey, at least it uses a couple of 12ax7s. I know, all the purists are screaming "power amp distortion is the real deal you idiot!!!". ok, ok, ya got me there. But let me ask this: Don't you want to try it? It probably sounds like doody...but what if it doesn't? I love tinkering with tube amps, it's fun, educational, and I get a certain satisfaction knowing that when I'm at the gig and asses are wigglin on the dance floor, it's partly because of the sounds coming out of my hot rodded silver face. I tried the modellers, no thanks. But, if I did try one of these new amps coming out and liked it, I mean really liked it, and it was versatile AND affordable, I'd consider getting one. I don't give a shit if it doesn't have any tubes, if it sounds good, who cares? Hey, I ain't married to the 60s...I'll try something new. Will you? Bring it on. |
when I'm at the gig and asses are wigglin on the dance floor, it's partly because of the sounds coming out of my hot rodded silver face
Hey, I like that... if I ever wind up building amps for other guys and not just myself, I think I'll name one of my models something like "AssWiggler 50" -- it would have the perfect rhythm tone for guitarists performing in dance bands (which accounts for around 90% of working guitarists getting paid gigs). |
