bass micro synth
hello there i seek some knowledge from y'all...
i am really interested in the electro hamronix
bass micro synth..but the reissue is way to expensive(i'm in canada so get hit bad with exchange)..it's something like 350$ to 400$(can funds)so my question is is possible to build a homemade version of this..has anyone attempted this
i know a place on the net where i can buy the schematic but don't know if there are any hard to find or discontinued ic's in it..does anyone have tehschem out there and would be able to let me know..also how difficult would this thing be to build..thanks in advance?

Hi!

The schematic is actually around on the net, at least for the guitar version (don't remember if the bass version is avaliable too) but from what I've heard they don't differ much (maybe just some different filtering).
From what I remember there's not any discontinued parts in it but I think it would be a little to much job building one. You would definetly need a PCB layout, otherwise you have to spend months just getting the schematic down on a PCB. It's a rather complex circuit, the schematic is on 3 pages.
I don't want to put you down, this is just what I think. Let me know if you want a link to the schematic!

I bought one of these when they first came out, years ago. It is an interesting toy, but has spent most of it's life in the junkbox.

I agree, Steve. Probably one of the weirdest pedals I've used (just tried one I had in for repair), had lots of fun for hours but I guess I'd be tired in a week or so.

sure let me know where you found the schem...thansk for your info..i am not very good with electronics(i work with wood) but have a friend who is studying electronics..he usually fixes all my amps and occasioannly builds me gadgets..he's very good with electronics but you are right it might be a difficult task to build one..too bad..it's really kinda unaffordable for just one effect...guess will have to see

The schematic for the bass synth and guitar synth can be found at:

ftp://ftp.ee.ualberta.ca/pub/electronics/cookbook/audio/guitar/

The files (bsynthX.tar.Z and gsynth.tar.Z) are packed in a odd format and in PS-format which can be hard for the average PC-user to handle.
Does anyone know if there are plain .jpg files around?

I don't own one however I have played with one the sliders are a big part of using it. The effect is a pain to set up small movements at the sliders make a big difference. A friend is going to make templates out of cardboard as a type of preset, one would bring the sliders to the template slots, different template for different sounds. I can sound very synth like IMO. I have a boss bass synth I think the EH is cooler sounding.
