I don't wanna admit this but...(POD) I bought a POD last night and I don't even have buyers remorse, (odd thing for me). It sounds alright, actually not bad. Although I am not disappointed buy the kidney bean shaped thing (BTW I was super pleased to find that it was not made out of plastic) there are factors this bugger can't model... Like the overwhelming sensation you'd get through out your body if you were pushing the Bassman that hard... I do foresee this unit being in my apartment recording life for as long as I live in an apartment. Should I ever use the thing live I will hide it so everyone can wonder how I am getting all these sounds from my Super Reverb. I am afraid this thing might turn into one of those things like a Digitech multi-effect units where people start a newsgroup dedicated to patches hoping that there is still some use in the damned thing... I'd hate to write a good or bad review about the thing right now as it is so new. I think it has alot of potential though... nic |

Nic, I would be curious to know how it does when you plug it into your SR. I've been trying to decide whether to go with a full blown Flextone II "plus" or maybe just a POD "2". The Flex II Plus has all the cool XLR connections etc. for going direct which would be for a quick live setup or recording. Only thing is my wife would probably shoot me if she saw me carting yet another amp into the ol' music room. It's already starting to get crowded in there BTW, I just picked up a little Korg Pandora III for headphone practice and must say it's a pretty nifty little gadget. Not a POD in the tone department but packs a lot into a small package for woodshedding. However, there are some really neat clean tones in it for crisp direct guitar tones. pHiLtHy |

I tried it through my RIDR, it made it sound puny and thin. It sounds great through my stereo though. Perhaps it will sound good through my 200W bass amp then I'd feel it, I bet. nic |

the guitarist for the bluesband the Nighthawks carried his POD to the Carolina blues festival in May--used as preamp into the Twin provided for the back line. sounded mighty good: he switched from clean to chorus to tweed OD to rockabilly slapback.... i'd rather use some dedicated pedals on stage, but lotsa sounds there. bill |

| Steve F. | Hi, Nic. Mine sounds crappy through any guitar/bass setup I've tried it through. I think it's because it's designed to be reproduced by a system with a flat frequency response, which no good sounding guitar amp will have. If you've heard how recorded music playback, like CD's or tapes, sounds through a guitar amp you'll realize that it's a losing battle trying to get a POD to sound decent through it. It's very nearly the same thing. Regards, Steve F. |

I have one of the original Flextones. I enjoy the amp and true to its name it is a very flexible amp. However my major gripe with it is it is very noisy. Even with humbuckers it hums a lot. With a strat you are constantly turning the guitar this way and that to cut down on the hum in pickup switch positions 1, 3, or 5. Don't have that problem with my homemade amps! If you decide to buy a Flex II Plus, be sure to audition it in a store with your favorite guitar and listen to how much hummmmm there is. Maybe the new models don't hum so bad? Steve |

thanks for the input Steve. however, my old fender amps hum a bit with single coils as well since i usually have a few stomboxes in the path. my boss ns-2 does a fair job of quieting things down though. i think one of the things i'm most concerned about with any of the line 6 stuff is how it holds up in the mix which is still kind of difficult to tell without jamming with the whole band. i was at mars music recently having a discussion with one of the sales guys and he even admitted that the flextones don't really cut through very well live. especially at higher volumes... seems like the transients / presence kinda goes south. oh well, guess i could always get one and give it a run with the band. if it doesn't work out i guess i could take advantage of their return policy. pHiLtHy |
