Mesa/Boogie cathode bypass caps Hi there Does anybody know what brand Boogie uses for cathode bypass caps? I mean the typical soft-yellow or sometimes black caps. There is sometimes TAR printed on them but i don't think that's the brandname. Thanks. Andy |

Andy, they are Sprague. You can get them from Mouser |

TANTALUM Spragues, That Is Andy, as Ed said, they are Spragues, but they are Tantalum capacitors. Some say those caps are responsible for the "Boogie" sound. I wouldn't know about that, since I have only used them on the power amp feedback loop in my amps -- and I used them because they were small and cheap. Gil |

| Andy | Hi Gill I was just curious about these caps since they seem to be in every Boogieamp. I've learned they are not of the best kind. Also my .50 Caliber works fine now, never sounded beter before(put some silver mica caps in there). I'm now trying to improve my Formula but i'm having some difficulty how this thing works exactly. Want to give it some more "highs" in the lead channels. Regards, Andy |

You replaced some tantalums with silver micas? I suspect you may be mistaked there Andy, SMs don't come in such high values... Gil | |

| Andy | Hi Gil No. ofcourse i didn't, just replaced several disc caps in the signal path with silver mica's. Andy |
