master volume super reverbs
what year did fender add the master volume to the super reverbs? did they remove them at a certain point? i bought a super and the guy swears it's a 76 or 77. i was under the assumption that by that point they had masters. any help?

You could check the transformer manufacture dates to see what year they were made. Check out the Fender amp field guide at http://www.ampwares.com/ffg/index.html

I own a 76 super reverb and it originally came with a master volume. It's possible your amp could be an early 76 model that was before the transition. But it's also possible that it's been modded. (Which wouldn't be a bad thing, because removing the master volume is usually the first step to blackfacing a master vol silverface amp anyway).

Best way to check the actual date of your amp is to check the speaker codes and the transformer codes (And pot codes if you want to get really picky). This is something that should be done before you buy ANY amp to ensure you're getting what you're paying for.

Your speaker codes would look something like this if your amp was a 76 - 137 7605

137 is the manufacturer (in this case CTS)
76 is the year
05 is the week it was built

(These also came with oxford speakers which would be #465)

Your transformer & pot codes will work the same way.
