Four 6V6's on a Bassman O.T. ?
I have an unused tweed bassman style output transformer lying around I want to use. It's approx. 4K primary to 2ohm secondary. Am I wrong to think I could use it to run 4 6V6's in PP, fixed bias through it? Wasn't the Deluxe Reverb O.T. primary around 8K? A 4X10,6V6 tweed style amp sounds intriguing. Thanks for the help!

I don't think a DR output transformer's primary impedance is quite that high. I think it's more like 6600.

My guess is that things are close enough that it would work OK.

Daver, I've been thinking about that for a long time!! go for it!! Should work fine. Just keep the voltages within reason for the 6V6s.

Thanks guys. Yeah, it seems like it should work out O.K. I just wasn't 100% sure if the primary impedance would be so high as to affect the tone or power output alot. Hopefully I can start ordering other parts and an enclosure sometime after the holidays and before I see my credit card statement from Christmas :^) Any other input or personal experiences with this type of set up are appreciated!

Daver, by all means, go for it and
don't look back. I built a 4 x 6V6 amp
using a Bandmaster tranny (same ratio, but
not as robust as a Bassman). It's
a nice combination, I'd bet you will
love it.

No problems thus far, and I play it
loud, and fairly often.

I'll second this motion
I've built an amp like this also.
I used the Twin Tweed circuit.
Over time, I replaced most of the components
in the amp with NOS. The resistor are all AB
carbon-comp, the coupling caps are all Vitamin Q's
the speakers are 1960 Jensen Vibranto's

I have owned ALOT of differnt amps in my life,
and this one is a keeper.

How about Class A (or pseudo Class A)?
To Jim, John & Steve:

So what about using a 2-6L6 Class AB OT for 4 6V6's running in Class A or pseudo Class A (i.e. cathode-biased fairly hot)? Or a quartet of EL84's wired up like an AC-30... (or would the impedances on that be off)?

I've also had this idea of rebuilding my Peavey Classic 30 as a AC-30, but maybe with just 2 EL84's if the OT or PT couldn't handle all 4. (The OT is for a quartet of EL84's running in Class AB with a B+ of around 332vdc, with 8 ohm and 16 ohm taps.) I guess if I was to go to all of that trouble I could replace the footmount OT, too...
