Re: wierd sounds?
Sounds like you need a set of strings with a wound *G*

I understand how this type of thing (truss rod, springs, etc.) could cause a noise, however wouldn't this noise then be audible on all the strings? (Or at least on more than just the g-string)

It all depends on frequency and harmonics. The test would be if it happens with certain notes or up and down thw string.

One other thought,
When I built my first guitar, the bridge saddles were a source of much trouble. I bought them from one of the biggest mail order DIY instrument supply houses but was very dissappointed. The strings would buzz, like fret buzz, but all over the place and after several trips in and out of the neck jig to level and recrown etc etc etc. I finally capoed at the 12th and removed the next couple of frets and there was still buzz. I knew it had to be the bridge. The saddles were sloppy so I bought some small files and re-filed them. I tried to not leave any place where the string could vibrate and buzz at the saddle, Think about the radius of a fret for a guide.

Have your tried these guitars through another amp on a different supply of line voltage? Maybe across town? Just curious, Ben

Ben,
I think I may have fixed it, though I haven't had a chance to try it through an amp. The noise, at least accoustically seems to be less. I stuffed paper in around the tremolo springs. I tightened the tremolo claw as tight as it could go and blocked my bridge. After that seems to be when this problem first arose if my memory serves me correctly. I wonder if this could be the cause, as I did not add the extra springs(There's still 3. Anyway, I have tried on different amps and in places across town and it does not appear to be something of that nature.
