Orange?? (what do you know)

i am basically looking to gather information on orange amps and speaker cabinets. a little history, something about the technology, but i am particularly interested in the cabinets. if anyone knows what speakers they used, cabinet construction, all of that sort of thing. i would like to hear about it. or if anyone knows of a good site, i would like to see it.

Examples of cabinets seen in Australia from C1973 / 1974 are finger jointed birch ply with either black or orange vinyl covering and are/were fitted with the Celestion G12M-25 ( greenback ) speaker x 4 .The heads of course were finished in the appropriate matching colour. Orange colour vinyl seems more common in Australia. There is a potted history of the company in the Aspen Pittman book called ... " The Tube Amp Book "......

Ive Owned an Orange OR 120 head, 4x12 cab with cel 25's, an Overdrive series master volume head and currently an 80W 2x12 combo. They have a very cool tone sort of gausy like an AC 30 but with more plexi muscle. I find the non master volume heads to have the best tone especially the pre 1973 MATAMP era amps. The Overdrive series are less warm and because the phase inverter curcuit of all Oranges is assymetrical, that is it employs only 1/2 a 12ax7 tube rather than both sides of the tube is only full sounding at high volume anyway. You can easily add a master to an early head if you need to and the superior trannies and other components will give sweeter tone. Stay away fron the

reissues. they are OK but not worth the price . Good luck!
