Bias King Question
I live in a small town and the nearest

competent amp tech is 150 miles away.

I'm thinking of buying a Bias King. Has

anyone used one of these? I'm a low-tech

sort of guy and I'm wondering if I can

successfully re-bias my Fender Twin.

I like the Swamp Probes, the only difference is you will need a DVM. If you don't have one, getting a 1/2 way decent DVM will run you over the price of the bias king.

Devices like this are a pretty handy DIY tool.

I considered the bias king, but got the Allesandro probe instead. I think it was $99 delivered. Works fine, simple to use. It only works on octal socket tubes (ie TwinRV). Look in Vintage Guitar under Hound Dog Amps.

your parts with an LCD will run you about $30.00. If your willing to spend a couple hours putting it together...agood weekend project GEO's got the info too for biasing with a probe.. GO for it!

I'm not sure about the decent DMM's but you can get the indecent ones really cheap these days (like around $30 for most of the ranges you'd need). So where is Charles (the Swamp Probe guy) these days? Haven't seen his posts here for awhile. (Last I heard his Swamp Probes were around $30 for one or $50 for a pair. And you would need a DMM with a dc mA scale since his probes don't use the 1.0R 1% cathode resistor.)

Well, he's got his own little board on his site he's been maintaining since the Ampage crash. He's also quite busy at the FDP. I think he really digs them old Fenders so he found a new home there.
