Leo Padron What speaker should I use?

I am looking for an 8 ohm 15" speaker for my tweed 5e5

project.

I would like to use the Celestion Vintage 30 if they make a 15" speaker, or Jensen. I was also looking at Eminence but I think this is more for bass applications.

The most difficult part is looking for where to buy these online so I avoid retail prices.

What brands and sources are recommended? Ones to avoid?

Before you do anything else, look at Ted Weber's speakers.

Leo,

This may go against conventional wisdom, but see if you can score a full range 15" out of an old organ. I got some 15" AlNiCo Clevelands w/1.5" voice coils and one resides in my Victoria Pro 5E5 with excellent tone. Also had good results with Rola and Jensen. The Webers are very nice also.

Have fun!

I have a Weber Ch12 in my PV Classic 30 and it sounds great. I understand that Ted's vintage line sounds even better but more $.I would highly reccomend Weber speakers, great advice, great service, great sound and great price. E-mail Ted and tell him what sound you're looking for and he'll suggest the right speaker.

old dr. fuzz
the classic late 50's, early 60's 15 inch guitar speaker upgrade is a JBL D130F- dont use the D140- its a bass speaker. If it was good enough for Dick Dale...

I have a 5B5 (same as 5C5), close to your version. My only "real" tweed. It has the original Jensen P15N, reconed by Gregg Hopkins and frankly I have never heard a better 15" speaker anywhere for any price. I don't know what they go for used but beg borrow or steal one of these. It makes all the difference in the world; esp in the older amps (like mine for instance) with ZeroNFB. The bass is big and warm, the highs are clear but never "biting".. the clean is unreal with a nice bark on overdrive. I've never heard any current speaker that comes close either. If you want an amp in this mold (5E5) that will *bury* everything else, this is where to invest the $.

IMHO of course. :-) GD LK *whatever* you choose!

phew!.. I'll get off my soapbox now.

Would you have the same recommendation for a 40w BF Fender amp? I'm building one in a combo cabinet that's cut for a single 15, looks like a brown Vibroverb. I'm wondering what speaker to be looking for. Good 15" guitar speakers are rare and costly. I don't really have time or spare change to do taste tests with these babys.

Thanks,
